Recycle: Brita Filters

I love it when unpredicatable items of life (cell phones, for example) find new purpose as other things. According to one of my favorite sites, Grist, starting in January you will be able to return your used Brita filter for recycling. It will then be reincarnated as as a toothbrush, cutting board, or cup (talk about full-circle...first it's the water, then it's the cup). Filters can be dropped off at participating Whole Foods locations or, for those of you like my poor sister who still don't have a Whole Foods, mailed (not as eco-friendly, though the recycling company says it also will recycle the shipping box). Drinking tap water just got even more eco-friendly.

More details here.

Note: It doesn't say if the recycling company can detect how many extra months you used the filter past the date on that handy little reuseable indicator. For my sake, let's hope not.

I have a Whole Foods! They bought out Wild Oats awhile ago and I forgot all about it. We were down there at Ben & Jerry's last night and I saw that it had been changed. I'll have to check it out to see if it's changed much since it was Wild Oats.
