Lots to see at the DC Green Festival. I was drawn to the Fair Trade booths, the T-shirts, the reuseable bags, and anything involving free food samples. I perused the home products, but mostly stayed away because I already knew most of them from my day job and because I don't actually own a house. I avoided the beauty products entirely because I am already confused by what to put on my face. I'll tackle that area later.
Here are some of things I loved and/or purchased:
- Chico Bag: I already use canvas shopping bags, but I wanted to find a reuseable bag I can keep in my purse for when I run errands or pick up dinner on the walk home from the subway. Chico bags are super cute, fold up easily into a teeny pouch, and are washable. I got a regular (left, in pouch) and a large (right, wrinkly but still quite useful).
- Super cute T-shirt for my nephew from Green Label Organic. 100% certified organic cotton, Made in USA, low-impact dyes. Made in the USA is becoming really important to me for both economic and quality reasons. Nephew will like the tractor; I like the message. (Bonus: Some of this month's profits will go to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, which I love.)
- I've been trying to find a more eco-friendly way to clean my cat's litter box than using plastic grocery store bags. Found these biodegradeable pooper scooper bags that should do the trick. I want to do more research on flushing the litter instead, but these will help for now.
- Didn't get one of these WeAddUp T-shirts, but I might. The back has a message about a common sustainability practice...the front has "We Add Up" plus a customized number. I love the message...I think it makes people feel a part of something.
Also saw lots of great Fair Trade goods, some wonderful organizations, and some yummy organic food. All of which I will explore in the near future.
A very good day all around.

Yeah! Your nephew will love being the guinea pig if you need an excuse to try out green products. Also, I bet dad would like one of those "Shower Together" shirts, although I suppose that could be embarassing for you.
Good point!! I think I am going to get the "Drink Tap" shirt for me...hmmm, that actually would be really good for you, too.
